Pre-Driver Training

Pre-driver training is available for anyone over 16 who does not hold a provisional licence but would like to learn the basics of driving.  Pre-driver courses are accepted by Lincolnshire Road Safety Partnership as a recent quote states:

‘Lincolnshire Road Safety Partnership do recognise that developing good driving skills and styles at an early age, i.e. Pre-Driver is a very important part of becoming a good defensive driver at test level and beyond.’

The three hour course will provide a useful opportunity to teach the basics of driving on private land under full, professional supervision and also help to raise awareness about the dangers and responsibilities of driving and encourage good attitudes and behaviour.  This in turn will give the pupil a better understanding of road procedures when they start to learn to drive on public roads.

Training can be provided on a 1:1 or 2:1 ratio.  A Go-Drive pre-driver training course is a perfect gift or school holiday activity for anyone interested in driving.

Learner Driver Tuition

Learning to drive is an important step for personal freedom. New prospects arise in your social life and more doors are open to you in the working world.   To help you learn how to drive safely for life Go-Drive will provide you with a professional approach, a suitable learning environment, high quality tuition in a suitable training vehicle with an instructor who is dedicated to the task at hand. Let professionalism of Go-Drive be your guide.

Go-Drive offers pupils two types of lessons so that they can choose what is best for them.  These types of lessons are:

One to One Lessons

There will be no other pupils in the car during your lesson. This is a good option for nervous pupils or those starting from scratch.

Buddy Lessons

Unlike many driving schools Go-Drive offers Buddy lessons that are on a two to one basis.  This option is ideal if you want to learn with a friend or family member.  While one pupil is driving the other will sit in the back and observe.  This is also an excellent way for both pupils to get used to driving with more than one other person in the car.

Pupils will still be treated as individuals and the topics for both pupils are likely to be different due to different competencies.  Both pupils will get the same length of time under tuition and only pay for the time that they are sat in the driving seat!!  For example; for a one hour ‘buddy lesson’ you pay for one hour, get one hour of personal tuition but also get one hour refresher or sneak peak on a new topic while you observe the other pupil.

If this option appeals to you but there is no-one you know who is learning to drive then please contact Go-Drive as we may be able to introduce you to another pupil in the same situation as yourself.

It is not set in stone that you have to continue with the option you chose when you first started to learn to drive.  You may decide after a while that you would like to try a buddy lesson or if you have had buddy lessons but would prefer some private tuition and have one to one lessons.  The choice is totally yours!!

First Lesson

For your first lessons you will be driven to a quiet location to allow you to gain a reasonable level of car control and a grasp of the procedures of driving before we move onto roads with traffic. Your instructor has a responsibility to other road users as well as yourself and believes that it is to everyone's benefit that beginners learn a little before moving into traffic.

Every Lesson

At the beginning of every lesson the objectives of the lesson will be discussed and if necessary a briefing given. Extensive use is made of visual aids during lesson briefings to give you every chance of understanding and retaining more information the first time around.

New Subjects

Initially on a new subject you will be talked through what to do completely. As your skills begin to develop the instruction will lessen accordingly. Once your driving demonstrates an understanding of, and the capability to achieve, the lesson objective a new topic will be started.

At the end of your lesson

Your progress will be recorded on a log sheet which you will see each lesson. The log sheet will help you to see how much progress you have made in each of the different topic areas.

While your log sheet is being filled in you will receive feedback from your instructor as to your progress during the lesson and any weak areas that need to be improved.  You will be given quiz sheets to do at home on the topic you have learnt and given helpful advice on studying for your theory or practical test.

The final thing to happen is to set the lesson objectives for the next lesson.  You will be given an information sheet so that you can read about the topic to be covered in your next lesson.  This means that there will be no need for you to wonder what is in store for you next time you come out of the house!

Tuition for theory and hazard perception test

Throughout your training you will receive help and advice on all aspects of your theory test.  Your instructor will provide a laptop for you to use in car to take mock tests on and prepare for both parts of the theory test.  This will help identify any areas where more study is required.  It will also enable you to see the screens as they will appear when you sit your test so you can walk into the test centre entirely confident that you know what to expect from the tests.

Of course, studying for tests isn't everyones cup of tea so should you feel you would benefit from extra help with studying for the theory and hazard perception tests this can be arranged for you.  Extra support is available from one hour sessions to full courses so you can pick what is right for you.  If this is of interest to you please speak to your instructor about booking additional theory training.  Please note extra training is chargeable (see Go-Drive Prices).

Pass Plus Course

The Pass Plus course is a set of six lessons designed to further develop the skills of newly qualified drivers.  Go-Drive is pleased to promote this course in the interests of road safety.

A Go-Drive Pass Plus course is not like any other.  As well as learning the essentials skills set by the course you will also learn about route planning with road maps and satellite navigation systems and use these methods during the course.

The successful completion of this scheme rewards you with more than just a certificate and cheaper insurance. You will be driving in the knowledge that you are a safer driver and have knowledge and experience of driving in some different conditions.

More information about the Pass Plus Scheme can be found at www.passplus.org.uk or an information leaflet can be provided by Go-Drive.

Driving Assessments/ Mock Test

All pupils of Go-Drive will have mock tests as part of there usual tuition when they start to approach test standard.  However, some learners have family or friends teach them.  A mock test with Go-Drive will give you an idea if you are ready for test and, if not, what areas need to be worked on prior to test.  You may also want to have your driving assessed if you have applied for a job which involves a company car as more and more companies are using driving assessments as a part of a job interview or if you are thinking of taking an advanced driving test.

Pupils who pass their practical test with Go-Drive can claim a free driving assessment on the first year anniversary of passing their test.  This is not only helps the pupil to keep their driving standards in peak condition but also provides an opportunity to talk about their new road experiences with a familiar face.

FREE Skid Pan Training

Once you have passed your practical driving test and have your full licence you can take part in additional FREE training through Go-Drive.  Skid pan training is held at Lincolnshire Police Headquarters.

You will be instructed by a qualified police instructor, drive a police vehicle and taught how to deal with the three types of skids: front wheel, rear wheel and four wheel.  You will also be shown the four main causes of skidding:  Speed, braking, acceleration and steering.  ABS brakes will be switched on a off the vehicle so the driver can experience the effects of ABS and more importantly learn how to stop a skid safely if a emergency arises.  The training can also help you raise your standard of driving and improve your driving confidence.

Training runs April through to August, usually on a Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday evening.

Other police conditions apply such as a requirement that you are a resident of Lincolnshire or attending College/University in Lincolnshire if your home address is elsewhere.

Driver Development Training

Refresher Tuition

There can be many reasons why people want to refresh their driving standards; "I passed my test years ago and have never driven since”, “I have lost my confidence since an accident”, “I have a few bad habits that I should probably sort out", “I have trouble parking”.  A refresher lesson or course from Go-Drive is the answer and will raise your awareness of drivers around you, inspire you to drive more confidently, and reduce the stress that you feel behind the wheel.

Motorway Tuition

Are you are nervous about driving on motorways or will not drive on one because you are not sure what to do?  Then don't despair. After some motorway lessons with Go-Drive you will feel confident on those long trips.  You will need to be a full licence holder to book this training.

Large Vehicle Tuition

Do you own a large vehicle such as a 4x4?  Are you having difficulties with parking or just driving in general?

If this sounds familiar to you then a lesson in your own vehicle with an instructor can settle you in to the intricacies of parking, turning and generally driving and handling a larger vehicle

Discuss what you would like to achieve with the instructor on the first lesson and overcome your particular concerns in an agreed order.
